 Draft Edit

Sequence 1

I divided the edit into two sequences due to my file slowing down on playback. I later realised that this was unnecessary as I just needed to render the work areas as I went through.

The audio was too loud initially so I had to reduce the music by a little bit.

Adding cross dissolve transitions to black to imitate a blinking effect. Alluding to the video being a dream or completely in his head. I was cutting to he beat of the music as well by looking at the audio wave levels.

Added warp stabilizer video effect to smoother out the b-roll footage and to calm down the pace of the song.

As the jumping scene was recorded in 120 fps for this, we were able to smoothly slow down the footage to fit the pacing of the song and context of the scene. I also used Optical Flow as the time interpolation method as I think it looks less choppy and more fluid.

I then had to scale this footage up due to it being being only 1080p as this was a recording resolution limit on the camera that we borrowed from MTU.

This is the timeline for the title sequence where the spaces are the beats and the pink blocks are both titles. I used a cross dissolve and reverse time change to blend the two titles together. I also layered up the dark scenes as well on top of the jumping footage to add depth into the scene and make the colour pop more.

Sequence 2

For the second sequence I had to make smaller compositions for a few of the loaded scenes with layers and effects. This was to make it easier for me to pan and scale the scenes. I could also move them around easier if necessary.

This is one of the party scene comps. Here I have cut small clips of the overlay with the masked figure and i increase the reds on it as to give a blinking effect on the mask. I have also blank footage underneath that I have blended gradually together to create more depth in the time-lapse. I also then duplicated the file of Dylan after this. I reduced the opacity to 80% and added a Vivid Light blend mode onto them. Then I animated them to each side of him. This was primarily aimed at hiding the rugged roto-scoping around Dylan.

This is the layering of scenes from the dark scene. I had all the footage at 50% opacity and fade ins and outs to smooth the look. I had to reduce the green layers opacity a bit more to 30% due to the greens being more vibrant and resilient to the opacity change.

I added a quiet rustling noise in the cornering scene when Dylan is crawling on the ground. This ended up being cut out though as it took from the song a little. I wanted to add more effects like this but they were difficult to do seamlessly without ruining the scenes.

I had also layered all the time-lapses together and faded them in and out for a cool surrounding effect around Dylan.

This is the end product for the video where I had the two sequences next to each other and the audio being synced with each other. I ended up deleting this audio and adding the original music file encase there was a playback issue after the render.
