After the ending scene, this was my next scene to tackle. I found that our filming could have been better to incorporate the masked figure better into the scenes. This was a struggle initially which ended up in lessened the quality and the footage length but I think the end results were sufficient enough. The main issue was keeping the camera as still as possible on the tripod and taking separate shots of the masked figure and Dylan and a blank scene without either. I also think this was due to a lack of preparation and vision as the ghost effect was not our original intention.

I initially attempted to mask the characters out in Premiere Pro like the ending scene but found the running too intricate for that style of masking. Instead I used the roto-scoping feature in After Effects. I had to manually fix the issues, checking each frame in order to get the characters running on their own.

I used the red background to also check for details that I was missing.

I tried to import the After Effects files directly into the Premiere file but unfortunately doing so kept causing the program to crash for some reason. I decided just to render them as a .mov to retain detail and also render in RGB + Alpha to make sure it had a transparent background.

For the background, I needed a blank scene. So I took a section of the end of the clip and slowed it down so that it lasted for the duration that I wanted. I used optical flow blending too if it was necessary so that the footage didn't look choppy.

I then added the two rendered running files on top and synced them together using the original footage.

Then I added the ghost effect, similar to how I did the ending scene by reducing the opacity. I also added the colour correction file from the original footage to both characters before I chopped them up for the flickering effect.

For some of the frames I decided to experiment a little and I changed the red curve to a more extreme position so that the mask would be highlighted and the features a bit more. This gave a cool, demon like effect to the character.

For this scene I basically used the same method as the previous. I manually roto-scoped around the characters and exported them. This scene was nicer than the previous to do however, due to the camera being more still and the characters were running in separate shots.

When I look back now, I could have saved some time and detail by not needing to roto-scope Dylan, but instead manually mask around him at the start of the running sequence. However I find the pen masking very finicky and annoying to use but it could have reserved some of the detail in the shadows and leaves instead of using a slowed down background.

I redid this scene that Darragh edited. There were two glaring issues that I saw and wanted to rectify. Like there being a prevalent outline around the hoodie mask and there being a weird colour change when the hoodie goes onto the screen. They were pretty easy fixes so it wasn't that bad.

When roto-scoping the hood, I used the detailed masking brush to try and keep the blurred closeup edge.

I also wanted to keep it relevant to the previous footage so I reduced the opacity, added the colour correction, randomly clipped the footage and added the extreme red glow.
