Lighting Ideas

Image
We have several options for different kinds of lighting we can use in our music video. We have both RGB and White LED lights, we could possibly get a generator to bring this to our location. The colour changing lights would allow us a lot of possibilities with the mood and feel of the video. With the main lights being white to fill the scene, we could also add in some colours like blue and green to add more interest to the shot. We also have a small ring light if needed for some fill lighting and if needed. A lot of our locations will allow for a lot of contrast with the lights. In the isolated room scene we could have shadows moving across the face, the source light could also move to keep everything in motion and to hold the audiences focus. The use of colour changing lights could also be used here to show the different emotions the character is going through. Another technique we could try for the scene in the woods is using ground lights, you set up lights directly on the grou...

            Lighting Test for Isolated Room

Running Narrative - Research and Inspiration

Running Narrative - Forest Inspirations I like the beginning of this piece. The ambiance and drone panning, introducing the situational context and the video's main character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06ht9MyJLT4 In this movie clip from Sherlock Holmes, I likes two aspects from the scene. The horizontal panning, keeping the subject in the centre of frame. I also liked the slow motion effects that showed the bullets moving in real time. Now the scene is a lot more action packed and production costs would have been through the roof but it inspires me how the shots were taken and their use of slow motion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SDFxGZ5fJw This scene from Harry Potter uses drone shots to shows the scale and terrain more and moves at the opposite direction to the characters to make it seem like they're moving faster. Shaken camera close ups to make it feel like you're running with the characters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHX7CURlsJQ In this Blaire Witch ...

Isolated Room Narrative - Research and Inspiration

An idea we had for one of the narratives in the video was the main character sitting in a dark room, alone and isolated.  This narrative shows him alone, at his most vulnerable. The room is the main setting of his downward spiral, here he uses substances to deal with his intense feelings. The darkness in this room symbolises the dark place he is in emotionally. The scenes of the party and the chase are happening in his head, the harsh reality is that he is still trapped in this room. The look and feel for this narrative is inspired by the styles I've seen in a few music videos. in ‘Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies’ by Biffy Clyro  yellow/gold lighting is used in a darker setting making it seem almost as if the video is set in a tunnel and the light at the end is shining in.  ‘Stan’ by Eminem  also inspired me, as its use of the dark interior lit by dull lights and the flashes of lightning really captured the main character's inner turmoil, which is s...

Party Narrative - Research and Inspiration

Party Scene Notes: Character sitting emotionless? Going through something by himself - isn't talking to anyone. Slow zoom out shots - starting with an extreme close up, ending with a long shot. LED Lights giving a party feel. Potential time-lapse video effect, with the main character stuck in real time. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne62ctPlaiI&list=WL&index=1&t=166s Trying to get Alcohol to numb the pain but cant find the motivation. Fog/smoke in the background? Fog drowns out everyone in the background? Makes himself all alone in the room?

Class Meeting

Meeting 13/10/2021 In class we talked about what our plan was for the context and compositing of the video. Still waiting for the audio is making this planning a little difficult but we have an early draft of the song which helps us visualize the tempo and lyrics of the composition. Our main focus was the storyboards. Darragh made an initial storyboard draft. This gave us a good direction for where we want to go with the piece. However, this made us think about our composition as a whole and not rush into a random narrative. We planned on doing some background research and inspirations on the narrative through looking at similar pieces and see how they approached a similar topic / mood. We are also going to split the narrative into three and mash them together in the edit. These three narratives are linked and add context, mood and motives for our main character. We are starting to plan the logistics of filming as well. Darragh will be scouting some locations that we have caught o...

First Draft up of Storyboards

These are the first draft ups of the storyboards. There will be more shots in the final one but we wanted to get a feel of how we think the 3 different narratives will play out.
