Shooting
Party Scene and Dark Room Thursday 11th November 2021
I borrowed a camera from the college equipment store on Sober Lane to shoot the music video. This camera, the Nikon Z6, is a full frame, mirrorless DSLR with 4K filming capabilities. it was perfect for the job and worked extremely well in the low light conditions we were shooting in.
I also borrowed a wide-angle lens, as we were shooting in Andrew's living room and there were going to be a lot of people, there wouldn't be enough room to get a wider shot with the standard lens.
We lit the scene using a variety of coloured LED lights. We borrowed two led panel lights from a friend and coloured one blue and one green to light the overall scene. We then used two lighting rods I fashioned from LED strip lights and poster tubes, one coloured pink for the highlights and one coloured purple for the background.
First we filmed Dylan rapping on his own, then we brought everyone else in so we could shoot the party scenes.
Then Andrew organised everyone so they were positioned around Dylan, then he started the music and instructed everyone on where to move, keeping the shot positions in mind.
For the dark room shots we took a variety of the shots using the lighting rods, waving them around, changing the colours, etc. and experimented with some long exposure photography. We also used an app on Liane's phone to use as a smaller light, and this was particularly effective in achieving the lighting we envisioned in our previous lighting tests.
Woods Scenes Saturday 13th November
I met the others at Ballyannon Woods and we went location scouting. Once we found a few areas we liked the look of, we started planning out what kinds of shots we needed.
We filmed a variety of chase scenes, some static, others Andrew filmed while running through the trees after Dylan. The image stabilisation built into the camera was particularly helpful here and these shots turned out very well. Dylan also had a great idea for a shot where he was being chased and they both jump over a log, where the camera is positioned pointing up and they jump over the camera.
We also filmed some b roll as we went, and plenty of panning shots to set the scene.
We found a small hut made from sticks and branches that was the perfect backdrop for the shots where Dylan is cornered, and this is where we filmed the big reveal.
