Video Shoots
We decided to split up the shooting into two days. Thursday 11th of November for the dark room scene and the party scene. We decided to film before we went out so it ended up being an actual party in the end but during the filming we were not drinking.
Day One
I organised the room and moved around the seating areas to try and make it ideal for the shot. The room wasn't the largest so we removed one of the couches in the room to make room. Unfortunately Kate was not here on this day so we had to focus on the lighting too. We kind of unanimously agreed that we wanted kind of a green and blue colours with pink accents for Dylan's 'Princess Dolan' logo. Sinead created light sticks that we used for more lighting accents. We borrowed coloured flood lights off a classmate to use to set up the room's mood.
We took a few shots of Dylan singing his song alone. This would be the overlayed onto the sped-up clip with people walking around him. I do realise that we might come into some issues with the editing aspect now however due to us filming the people walking around the seat with Dylan still there. I will have to edit him out so i can roto-scope the lip sync on top of the sped up footage. We also took shots where his inner demon is present in the back and foreground. For most of the party shots, I was holding up one of the pink lights for a faint pink accent.
I was directing each scene and checking that the footage was the right angle and proportions. I would tell people when to dance and to keep moving around. I reorganised the room for the feet dancing shots. I wanted to shoot this in 120fps instead of being in 4k because I want to be able to slow down the footage in post.
The dark scenes were the last shots for the first day. We had Dylan sitting on the ground in the corner of the room. We tested a few shots using the lighting poles produced by Sinead. The poles however had too much brightness, even at a dim setting due to the large surface area of the lights. Liane then tested her phone to producing the coloured lighting which worked better as it was more focused and not lighting up the wall behind as much. We moved the light around Dylan using different colours and getting him to act distressed and confused.
Day Two
We decided to go to Ballyannan Woods in Midleton instead of our other options because I knew the forest very well as I only live down the road from it. It also made more sense to go there in terms of travel. Sinead lives in Midleton too and the rest could get a lift from town via Dylan's car.
I had the weather checked and it wasn't sunny which was fine as we were going for more of a dull look anyways and the sun could cause issues with the shots. It also wasn't raining so it was the perfect date to shoot. People did have appointments for 5pm however so we were under some time pressure.
We decided to film on Saturday 13th of November and were collected from Cork city at 11am to have filming start at 12 / 12:30. As we went through the woods, we were looking for aesthetic scenes that we could use for the start and end scenes for locational context that we could add into the video. We wanted to get extra footage so that a re-shoot was not needed, plus it would give us more flexibility when editing.
