Week 8
Week 8 Update
For class this week, Sinead and I were present for it. We showed Maria our work and plans for the coming week. Sinead had the footage and worked on the Logging of the video files and I helped out if needed to make sure everything was named and in their relevant folders.
We showed Liane's test footage of the use of the long exposure photos we took for the dark scene. We also presented some of the footage that we took in the woods.
After class, Sinead and I worked on the colour correcting of the video files as well as looking through the footage to see what shots we wanted to use and which ones we didn't. For the shots that we didn't think we needed to use, we avoided colour correcting them to differentiate from the others. But we did not delete them in case we needed them in the future.
Sinead and I edited a test shot of Dylan yawning in the forest. Initially we had a very bleak view of the woods, dark and moody but we felt like a lot of the depth and detail was being lost as we recorded in 4k with a very good camera that we borrowed from the college. Therefore we decided to add some colour to the scenes while retaining the dark and dusk feeling. Common colours that we kept encountering in the scenes were oranges and greens. We highlighted them and boosted the blues to darken the scene.
Once we were happy with the scene's mood, depth and colours, this gave us a basis for all the other shots. We wanted to make all the scenes feel like they were recorded at the same time, with minimal differences in lighting and time of day. Hence each scene had to be manually tweaked but still based on the original colour correcting file for consistency throughout the woods story line.
Once we were done, we quickly looked at the colour correcting that Sinead did on the dance and dark scenes. Then when we were happy, Sinead passed me the files so I had them and that we had another backup. We also then had the same colour correcting files so that we could work in tandom.
Unfortunately Liane, Darragh and Kate don't have the footage but to counteract this, I sent Kate and Darragh scenes to edit together via WeTransfer.
For next week, we wanted to have test footage completed of scenes that needed to be edited together. Darragh, Kate and Myself will focus on that. Sinead will focus on a rough edit of the woods storyline so that we had a base to work off of. Liane would then work mainly on the animation of the title logo for the music video.
