For this, I used a tutorial online. I made a solid layer over the video with a fractal noise effect, then I edited the width and height of it, and precomposed the layer. I then used a displacement map on an adjustment layer and blended it with the noise layer. I alt clicked random seed too and wrote in time*10 for movement. I added a motion tile effect on the adjustment layer with mirrored edges to offset the cropping. Then I precomposed all layers, and added a shift channel effect, duplicated the layer twice and for each I turned off one of the red, green or blue channels. I changed the first two layers blending mode to screen, and added opacity keyframes to each. Then I alt clicked position and wrote wiggle(2,200).
Then I precomposed those layers and created a new adjustment layer and added an optics compensation effect and reversed the lens distortion. I alt clicked view centre and wrote in wiggle(5,1000). I then added keyframes for the field of view. I then added a radial blur and increased the amount, set type to zoom then keyframed the animation for it.
I ran into some serious issues when rotoscoping the clip of Dylan's performance. I was unable to view the footage at full resolution in After Effects because by PC just wasn't powerful enough. It crashed three times, corrupting files each time, meaning I had to start from the beginning. The automatic rotoscoping tool in After Effects did a good enough job at detecting where the outline of Dylan's figure was, but as I could only run it at 1/5 resolution the final rendered output was a little jagged and pixelated. A big mistake we made when filming was having Dylan sitting in the background shots where the others were dancing, as when we overlaid the rotoscoped footage there we odd bits of Dylans head and arms peaking out from in the background. To address this I masked Dylan out of the background, the duplicated the layer a couple of times, added some Gaussian blur and repositioned them to fill in the Dylan shaped space. Then I set the duplicated layers' blend modes ...
I realised that part of the reason the last title looked so grainy was because I had made the original artwork in Illustrator without the pink, and brought it into Photoshop and duplicated the layer and used a paint tool to fill in the second layer pink, so I went back to my original Illustrator file and added the pink outline there. Then I brought that into After Effects and used a Bad TV effect, and rendered it with a transparent video background instead of using a green screen background as keying it out later sapped the vibrancy of the colour out of the text. Then I brought it into Final Cut to see what it looked like on the footage, and it came out much crisper and more vibrant. There's a little bit of fray around the edges but that's due to the glitch effect that I used but seems more subtle and appropriate for the typography than before.

I found that our filming could have been better to incorporate the masked figure better into the scenes. This was a struggle initially which ended up in lessened the quality and the footage length but I think the end results were sufficient enough. The main issue was keeping the camera as still as possible on the tripod and taking separate shots of the masked figure and Dylan and a blank scene without either. I also think this was due to a lack of preparation and vision as the ghost effect was not our original intention. I initially attempted to mask the characters out in Premiere Pro like the ending scene but found the running too intricate for that style of masking. Instead I used the roto-scoping feature in After Effects. I had to manually fix the issues, checking each frame in order to get the characters running on their own.
